Ellie Parkes Obituary

Eleanor Frances Roth Parkes, 72, of Draper, VA, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 4, 2016, after an unexpected hospitalization with the flu.

She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, Mimi, sister, aunt, grandaunt, and friend to everyone she met.

She touched many lives in her career as a registered nurse at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center in Fairlea, WV, and Greenbrier Respiratory Care in Lewisburg, WV, as well as American Home Patient in Salem, VA.

After her retirement, she took great joy in her cardinals, sunflowers, gardening, canning, and horses.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Alvin Earl Parkes; her daughters, Jennifer Lynne Parkes and Jody Lenore Parkes Mayer; son-in-law, Jon Mayer; grandson, Joseph Mayer; brother, Steve Roth (Susie); sister, Cindi Roth; and numerous loving extended family members.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 10, 2016, at 6 PM, one hour prior to the 7 PM celebration of life service at Max Creek Baptist Church, 3000 Old Route 100 Road, Draper, VA. A reception will immediately follow the service in the social hall.

Stevens Funeral Home in Pulaski, VA, is in charge of arrangements.
